Definitions:
METeOR: The manner in which labour started in a birth event, as represented by a code (1=Spontaneous, 2=Induced; 3=No labour; 9=Not stated).
S/T Perinatal Data Collections:
NSW: The manner in which labour commences; Spontaneous: a labour that commences naturally and with no external aid. Induced: labour is initiated by the use of drugs (oral, intravaginal or intravenous) such as oxytocin (Syntocinon), prostaglandins or their derivatives (i.e. medical induction), or artificial rupture of the membranes either by hind water or forewater rupture (i.e. surgical induction). No labour: Elective caesarean section. VIC: The manner in which labour starts in a birth event. Labour occurs naturally without any interventions, or is induced medically or surgically. Augmentation - spontaneous onset of labour complemented with the use of drugs such as oxytocins, prostaglandins or their derivatives, and/or artificial rupture of membranes either by hindwater or forewater rupture (ARM); QLD: Spontaneous Labour commences at the onset of regular uterine contractions, which act to produce progressive cervical dilatation, and is distinct from spurious labour or spontaneous pre-labour rupture of membranes. Induced Medical and/or surgical procedure performed for the purpose of stimulating and establishing labour in a woman who has not commenced labour spontaneously. No labour (caesarean section) Indicates the absence of labour, as in a caesarean section performed before the onset of labour or a failed induction. WA: Spontaneous - Contractions commence spontaneously. Spontaneous RoM by itself does NOT constitute spontaneous onset of labour. Induction is either a medical and/or surgical procedure performed for the purpose of stimulating and establishing labour in a woman who has not commenced labour spontaneously. No labour indicates the absence (e.g., where there is an elective CS or a failed induction followed by an emergency CS; TAS: Indicate if the labour started spontaneously or was induced. If no labour occurs, select 'None'.
