Artificial feeding Neonatal feeding Definitions: S/T Perinatal Data Collections: NSW: Infant feeding on discharge from the birth hospital. Any food being marketed or otherwise represented as a partial or total replacement for breast milk, whether or not it is suitable for that purpose. VIC: Whether any infant formula was given to this baby in hospital, whether by bottle, cup, gavage or other means. QLD: The type of fluid that the baby received at any time during the birth episode. Formula: refers to the commercially prepared formulas that adequately meet the nutritional needs of the newborn. Other types of fluid includes but is not limited to water, fruit juice, herbal tea or flavoured water. The above values are collected if the baby has had the fluid at any time from birth until discharge and 24 hours before discharge. Description: ACT: Breast milk substitute, water based fluids and oral medications or supplements, none of the above. Tas PDC collects this information in Obstetrix Tas, a statewide Electronic Perinatal Database that is used in public maternity and publically contracted private hospitals throughout Tasmania.
