Suction
Resuscitation at birth
Definitions:
S/T Perinatal Data Collections:
QLD: Suction (oral, pharyngeal, etc) routine aspiration of the airways only. Suction of meconium (oral, pharyngeal, etc) meconium is cleared from the airway with a suction tube. Suction of meconium via ETT: meconium is cleared from the airway via insertion of an endotracheal tube.
National data are available. The NPDC uses a hierarchical coding system for this item; therefore if more than one type of resuscitation is used, the highest order type in the hierarchy is coded. QLD collect "suction of meconium" (oral, pharyngeal and via ETT). Other S/Ts do not collect this.
