Data definitions

Definition:
NCIS: Diagnosis or diagnoses relevant to the death of the deceased, based on the autopsy report. NMMD: Primary (underlying) cause of death as determined by stated or territory maternal mortality review committee.
ST Death Registration: Disease or condition leading to death. Include the disease or injury or condition which led directly to the death not only the mode of dying such as heart attack or respiratory failure.

Additional information

NCIS item is a free text field that contains detailed information about medical cause of death. NCIS data collection also contains the ICD-10 cause of death provided by the ABS. NMMD item is a free text for description of principal/underlying cause of death.
