Definition:
METeOR: The self-reported number of cigarettes usually smoked daily by a pregnant woman after the first 20 weeks of pregnancy until the birth. S/T Perinatal Data Collections:
VIC: Report the mother's stated average number of cigarettes smoked per day. If she smoked tobacco, but not cigarettes, estimate the number of cigarettes that would approximate the amount of tobacco used, for example, in a pipe.

Additional information

This item is included in the Perinatal NMDS for births from July 2010. This item will therefore not appear in the NPDC until 2 years later due to the time lag for data collection from the S/T. Prior to 2010, TAS, WA, SA and NT collected the average number of cigarettes smoked in the second half of pregnancy. VIC, WA and SA collect occasional cigarette smoking.QLD Perinatal Mortality Committee form records smoking at any time of the pregnancy and includes details on when quit and how many cigarettes per day.
